'Today we're learning about promises again,' said the small girl.
'All the big ones,
'and the small ones,
'and the ones we don't keep.’
She sighed.
'It doesn't make sense.'

(Pause.)

'Why not?' asked the first little owl.
'Well,' said the small girl,
'if you break a promise,
'it's not a promise, anymore, is it?
'You can't really call it a promise, anymore.
'Isn't that right?'

(Pause.)

'Um...' said the dishevelled little owl.
'So,' said the small girl,
'if we learned about the promises we keep
'and forgot about the rest
'we'd get the lesson done in half the time, 
'and have time for other things.'
