The dishevelled little owl and the first little owl
waited for the small girl to join them.
They waited. And they waited.
They circled and hovered and perched.
They knew the small girl was thinking, 'I can't.'
They knew she was thinking, 'I'm not good enough.'
They knew she was thinking, 'There's not enough time.'
And, 'What if... ?'
The owls knew something else about the small girl, too.
They knew she was thinking, 'That's a magic place.'
And, 'It’s a wondrous place.'
And, 'I could stay there without even trying.'
And so, as the small girl thought, 'Will I?'
And, 'Can I?'
And, 'Maybe... perhaps...'
The animals of the forest came (from far and wide.)
First, red foxes. Then came the deer.
All the frogs and the fish and the swimming things.
They sat and stood, bubbled and looked at the small girl.
They whispered wise words... and she heard them.
