The quiet flyer
April 28, 2017
This dishevelled little owl is rumpled and fluffy and not very good at talking BUT she does (if she says so herself) have a secret skill... she flies perfectly quietly. She doesn't flap. She doesn't whoosh or squawk or tweet. (She makes absolutely, positively, no noise at all.) Quiet-flying has always served the little owl well because she is always (without fail and all the time) five minutes late for EVERYTHING. Her quiet-flying has meant she can arrive (where ever she needs to arrive) without anyone noticing. And then (after she has arrived) she can stand in a corner and pretend she has been there for HOURS. So with all the pride she has in her flying the little owl was surprised (and a little miffed) when she was told today that ALL owls fly absolutely quietly. When she heard this and had it confirmed (by a British academic with an intelligent grey beard) she wrapped herself in her wings and closed her eyes and tried NOT to think her quiet-flying was no longer special. She sat and sat and thought and thought. And then she decided. It didn't matter at all.
