The great writing mountain
March 31, 2017
This dishevelled little owl is writing. (Writing and writing.) And she is thinking how once (in a moment of sun-dappled self confidence) she thought she KNEW about writing but now that she is writing and rewriting (and editing and rearranging) she has realised that she really didn't know anything about writing at all. And THEN (through all the writing-fret) a little owl-voice reminds her that writing-worrying DOESN'T mean she is losing her writing-nerve (though sometimes her nerve hides itself excellently). It means (so the little owl-voice tells her) that she now knows that the Great Mountain of Writing Unknowns is there. She can navigate it. Not perfectly. (Never perfectly.) But better. (Always just a little better.) This dishevelled little owl has learned so much from writing the fifty-five thousand words of "Elsewhere" and each one has made her oh-so-tired BUT now the first three chapters are final-edited and ready to go out to readers. A little miracle. A nerve-wracking and feather-shivering miracle, but a miracle all the same.
